Strengthening global equine biosecurity
Addressing the challenges of equine welfare
National passports recognised by the FEI, alongside the FEI Passport itself, play a vital role in equine biosecurity, offering standardised, reliable insights into a horse’s health history and custodianship.
The Equine Digital Passport aims to build on this foundation by delivering a secure, digital counterpart to the physical document, while enhancing traceability and health record integrity through enriched, interoperable data—supporting more effective biosecurity measures on a global scale.
Equipass was created in response to a growing need within the equestrian world for a more reliable, accessible, and secure way to manage horse identification and health information. The project originated as a collaboration among veterinarians, federations, and biosecurity experts who witnessed firsthand the challenges posed by outdated paper-based systems, fragmented records, and slow responses to emerging health risks.
Together, they envisioned a digital platform that could simplify documentation, strengthen disease prevention, and empower owners and professionals to care for horses with greater confidence and clarity.
